Buy
Whether you are looking for a traditional auction house experience or the convenience of online and commission bidding, Churchill Auctioneers provides a buying platform to suit your needs.
We hold live auctions at our Thame base every three weeks which are simultaneously broadcast live online via Easy Live Auctions, and The Saleroom.
We are open on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday prior to the auction for viewing, 9am – 4pm.
You can join us in the room to bid or join us online via one of the aforementioned bidding platforms.
For Easy Live Auctions, there are two options:
Option 1 – you choose to pay a premium 3.6% on top of our commission
(Choose this option if you aim to spend less than £100).
Option 2 – You pay a flat fee of just £3* – this is the only additional
fees on top of our commission. Both options allow you to bid across both days. You can also leave advance bids ahead of the sale. If you are not local to us please familiarise yourself with our shipping policy here.
*PLEASE CHOOSE CAREFULLY – THIS ACTION CANNOT BE UNDONE
For The Saleroom – and additional fee of 4.95 +VAT will be added on top of our in-house premium.
BIDDING
In-house bidders must register their full name and postal address before the beginning of any sale with Churchill Auctioneers (written proof of such details may be requested). In making any bid or commission bid a purchaser acknowledges that their attention has been drawn to these conditions of sale and that they agree to be bound by them.
The advance of bidding shall be regulated by the Auctioneers who reserve the right to refuse any bid. The highest bidder at the fall of the gavel/ close of the online bidding shall be the purchaser.
ONLINE BIDDING
Along with bidding live on the day, buyers can also leave absentee bids online too – please note, the auctioneers cannot see what amount has been bid. If an item sold for your top bid but you didn’t win, it is because your bid was off-increment against the room or the alternative platform.
COMMISSION BIDDING
Due to the large number of bids that we receive, we must ask that all commission bids are received by 10am on the day of the auction. Please note that we cannot guarantee to execute any bids received after this time.
TELEPHONE BIDDING
Due to the large number of requests for telephone bids that we receive, we regret that we are unable to accept telephone bids unless, you are prepared to open the bidding at £100 should the auctioneer deems it appropriate to do so.
CLEARANCE AND PAYMENT
Goods must be cleared as soon as possible, by the Friday following the sale at the latest. There is little space for storage, and we need items cleared to be able to provide you with the next sale.
All lots sold will be subject to premium on the hammer price of 20% (Minimum of £1 per lot) + VAT payable on the premium – unless otherwise stated by an asterisk).
The property in any lot shall not pass to the purchaser until payment is received by the Auctioneers of the full hammer price and the purchaser’s premium and VAT.
Items purchased using the online bidding platforms will attract additional fees – please visit the relevant websites for up to date information.
Payments are accepted in cash, bank transfer or by credit or debit card – you can also pay online via the payment portal which can be accessed through your invoice.
Cash and Bank Transfer payments are limited to a maximum of £5000 due to UK money laundering laws. There is no charge for paying any amount by debit card, but credit cards may be refused to settle large accounts.
No telephone payments: ‘Card Not Present’ transactions over the phone cannot be used to make payment due to PCI DSS compliance (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard). This is to keep your data and card details safe and secure from fraudulent hackers.
All items not paid for within 10 calendar days of the sale will automatically have a 10% (+VAT) late payment fee added to their bill. Items still not paid for after a further 14 calendar days will be re-entered into the sale and the perpetrator will be blocked from bidding with us again and their account marked with a block which may affect their bidding with all other auction houses on the internet bidding platforms we use.
Items which have been paid for but have not been collected or with agreed arrangements to collect within 14 calendar days will attract an addition storage fee of £3 (+VAT) per day per lot. Once the total price paid has been reached the item will be offered in the next sale and no refund or proceeds from the sale given.
